Emily Griffin
Mansfield High School Student
I'm a high school senior in Mansfield Massachusetts. Not only have I lived in New England my entire life, but I've also lived in the same state, same town, and same house my entire life. I've never even got further away from this place than New York . Maybe that's why I'm drawn to reading and writing.
When I was a little kid, I liked making my own stories, but I hated reading other peoples.
I guess I was egotistical.
Since I'm a high school student trying to write a novel, I suppose I still am. But I've grown into liking reading, and by comparing my own to other peoples' writing, I have been learning to see what techniques others use and to realize what areas I myself need to improve upon. I am particularly bad at committing to a piece of work until it is finished. About two years ago, I created a few characters and started messing around with them. I made a plot for them. I changed the plot for them. I forgot about them for a while, and then I glanced over them again.
And now they are the basis of what will hopefully become my first completed novel. I chose to write a book for my senior project because I wanted to finish something I started a while back, and get experience with a process I plan to repeat as many times as I can before my brain is squeezed dry.
